Last week for my friend’s birthday we visited Waikiki. Waikiki is Colchester’s only Tiki bar and is situated down Crouch Street in Colchester. I have been there a few times before and it is always a good night out. Entry on average is £5 and there is a good variety of drinks on offer at Waikiki at reasonable prices. The best part of Waikiki by far is the atmosphere and the décor. Being the only Tiki bar in Colchester, it really stands out from the other bars and clubs with its cool decoration and lighting. There is also a great variety of music played, so there’s usually something for everyone. As it is situated in Crouch Street, it is right round the corner from the cinema and other main establishments of Colchester, leaving it easy to find and the perfect place for pre-drinks in town before other clubs if you don’t want to stay there the whole night- especially as it stays open until 3am on Saturday nights. There is usually a great vibe and friendly staff. However, my last visit has put me off Waikiki. The DJ was very rude and insulting to my friend and called security on him, the bouncer threw him out, was very aggressive towards him and ripped his clothing. He then proceeded to be very rude and was nearly aggressive to one of my female friends. I found this behaviour totally unacceptable, unprovoked and out of order. Usually Waikiki is such a good night out and I would recommend it to anyone, although this last experience has definitely made me think twice about the staff and who they employ. However this seems to have been a one off, and I have had many great nights there since. I would still recommend this place, although more warily, as a good night out on the whole.
